Mixed results for Mayo GAA teams around the country

There were mixed results for Mayo football and hurling teams around the country over the past 24 hours.

First up were the Under 17 footballers away to Roscommon in the first round of the Connacht championship.

A healthy seven-point half-time lead (0-13 to 0-6) was bolstered in the second half by two Gavin Forry goals, and by the end Mayo had secured a 2-17 to 0-11 victory.

Today, the Mayo Under 20 hurling team had a decent start against Derry in the Richie McElligott Cup (All-Ireland B) semi-final but increasingly came under pressure as the game continued.

Trailing 0-4 to 1-11 at the break, Mayo pulled a goal back early in the second half but could only add three more points to their tally while Derry scored 13 times to run out 1-24 to 1-7 victors in Kingspan Breffni Park, Cavan.

Also today, the Mayo Under 17 hurlers kept their winning run going in the Electric Ireland Celtic Challenge competition, earning a 1-12 to 1-8 win away to Donegal. Their third game in the group phase will be played next weekend at home to Meath Royals.
