Four Mayo groups shortlisted for prestigious digital awards

.IE, the national registry for .ie domain names, has announce that four entries from Mayo groups have been shortlisted for the .IE Digital Town Awards 2023.

Hollymount’s eco-powered cabinets is shortlisted in the Digital Sustainability category, a new award category for 2023.

The two eco powered cabinets have been installed on Croagh Patrick to securely store defibrillators and life-saving medications to treat cardiac arrests.

The cabinets are powered by solar energy so they don’t require a main power supply and can be seen from up to 6 miles away via an infrared LED light.

Heat sensors are used to monitor temperature levels which are transmitted in real-time to a mobile device.

The cabinets have geolocation capability which is vital for emergency services.

In the community category, sponsored by Western Development Commission, Foxford, has been shortlisted for its innovative, digital games designed for seniors living with cognitive impairment.

The games including puzzles, quizzes and arts and crafts, are provided through a digital tool, Tover Table.

This is a virtual table, controlled by an overhead projector and can include up to six participants at once which stimulates brain activity. To date, over 40 families in Foxford have been helped by this service.

Castlebar’s Foodie Save has received the nod in the Digital Business category which is proudly sponsored by Vodafone.

Foodie Save is a mobile App which aims to reduce food waste by connecting the public with local businesses who wish to sell food they have left over at the end of the day.

The App makes it as simple as click – swipe – collect. Foodie Save aims to operate in all small and medium towns across Ireland within the next three years.

Louisburgh’s Michael McGuire has been shortlisted in the Digital Local Hero category for his work with Louisburgh Foróige youth club.

Michael has been a leader in his local Foróige club for 10 years, and through his passion and drive for community and the digital world, he introduced a ‘Tech Room’ to the local community centre where volunteers provide classes in digital technology including 3D printing, podcasting and virtual reality.

The awards offer a prize fund of €100,000 which is split across the 10 categories.

Winners will be announced at a Gala Awards event on Wednesday 24th May.
