Mayo saddened by loss of Foxford woman with “a heart of gold”

“A lovely lady with a heart of gold”- one of many tributes paid to Patricia ‘Patty’ Coss (née Durkan), Swinford Road, Foxford, since her unexpected death yesterday.

Her indomitable spirit and good humour is frequently mentioned in the many condolences posted online since her sudden passing earlier this week.

She is survived by her brother Douglas, sisters Mary, Una and Bernie, as well as a wide circle of other relatives, neighbours and close friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.

Patty was predeceased by her husband, Val, her parents Michael and Bridget, her sister, Margaret, nephew Darragh, brother-in-law Martin Cunnie and her parents-in-law Jack and Nellie Coss.

As office manager, Patty was a cornerstone of prominent Mayo legal entity P. O’Connor & Son until her retirement in 2020 after 47 years with the firm.

One of the first to offer condolences was Pat O’Connor, former managing partner of law firm P.O’Connor & Son and his wife, Gillian.

Mr. O’Connor described Patty as his “close and indispensable aide until her retirement after 47 years with the firm."

He added: “Patty will be very fondly remembered by everyone who had the great honour and pleasure of knowing her in this life. We are all saddened by the sudden passing of our dear and cherished friend."

Patty will repose at Clarke's Funeral Home, Foxford, tomorrow (Wednesday) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Funeral will arrive to St. Michael’s Church, Foxford, on Thursday morning for Requiem Mass at 11 a.m. with the funeral proceeding to Craggagh Cemetery.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.
