Formal launch next month of Mayo's Lough Carra LIFE Project
A PROJECT safeguarding the future of one of Mayo's most important and popular lakes will be formally launched next month.
The official launch of the Lough Carra LIFE Project will take place in Belcarra Community Centre from 11 a.m. on Monday, May 15.
The project will be formally launched by Malcolm Noonan, Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform, and Pippa Hackett, Minister of State for Land Use and Biodiversity.
The launch will be followed by an open day at Belcarra Community Centre, with information stands and talks by all the project partners.
Lough Carra LIFE is a five-year project led by Mayo County Council and funded jointly by the European Commission LIFE Programme and our Project Partners; Department of Agriculture, Food, and Marine (DAFM), National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), Geological Survey Ireland (GSI), Coillte, and the Lough Carra Catchment Association (LCCA).
The project aims to improve the water quality and restore some of the key habitats within the catchment area of Lough Carra.
In improving ecosystem resilience and reducing nutrient pollution in Lough Carra, the project is working with farmers, other landowners, and local community groups to improve the lake habitat, along with other habitats and species in the area.
