Turn Mayo Pink!

THE May bank holiday is fast approaching and that means one thing. This is the weekend when towns, streets, houses, shops, businesses and schools take on a rosy hue all in the name of breast cancer research.

It’s time to Turn Mayo Pink! for the annual Mayo Pink Ribbon Charity Cycle on Saturday, April 29.

Since its inception, the people of Mayo have taken the Mayo Pink Ribbon Charity Cycle to their hearts. One reason they do so is that so many families have been affected by breast cancer and this gives them a small way to show their solidarity with them.

It’s also a way for people to support cyclists participating in this event, many of whom have also been affected by breast cancer, either directly or indirectly.

Each year the pink bikes, pink shop windows and pink ribbons all go a long way to creating a very special atmosphere in the county and now the cycle organisers are asking for your support to once again Turn Mayo Pink!

This year the Atlantic Technological University has extended a huge welcome to Mayo Pink Ribbon and offered their Castlebar campus as the home venue for cycle 2023. The ATU, formerly the GMIT and known to all in Castlebar as St. Mary’s, is fast becoming a hub for community activity in the county town and will make a beautiful venue for the cycle.

As a completely voluntary organisation, Mayo Pink Ribbon depends on its community of volunteers throughout the county. These are the people who welcome cyclists at registration, who offer on road support, who stand in towns at bucket collections, who offer refreshments to cyclists along the way, the people who wave and cheer and encourage. It is because of these people that the Mayo Pink Ribbon charity Cycle is known as the friendliest cycle.
