Further funding allocated to progress Mayo's R312

A Mayo TD has received confirmation that funding has been approved to progress phase two of the R312 route between Castlebar and Bellacorrick.

Deputy Alan Dillon said: “I am pleased to receive confirmation from the Roads Design Office of Mayo County Council that €100,000 has been allocated by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) following an application supported by the Department of Transport to progress the planning and design of the R312 Glenisland Phase 2 Scheme.

"This allocation has enabled the appointment of consultants to undertake the preparation of a Natura Impact Statement, along with the drainage design.”

Deputy Dillon said it is now hoped to submit the scheme for approval to An Bord Pleanala later this year.

“I am delighted that further works are planned on this route, which has been described as one of the most neglected routes in the county.

"Following the opening of the new bridge and road realignment at Glenisland, I have campaigned for further works on the R312.

‘I am pleased to confirm that there has been more progress with the allocation of this funding and I look forward to seeing the road being further upgraded given the serious safety concerns which have been highlighted over the past number of years by residents,” said Deputy Dillon.
