Achill International Film Festival back with a bang

THE Achill International Film Festival is back with a bang after a successful first year. The festival, which runs from May 11 to 13, will welcome filmmakers and artists to the island for three days of film screenings.

Emily O’Callaghan, the director of the Achill International Film Festival, said that festival attendees will come together 'to enjoy the stunning scenery and some of the finest new films produced here recently in Ireland and abroad' and they can mix with locals, actors, film lovers and directors alike.

As well as fun networking events and parties, the festival will play host to entertaining Q&A sessions and fascinating panel discussions. Between screenings, attendees can visit the locations where the award-winning film The Banshees of Inisherin was filmed, and enjoy the beautiful beaches that Achill has to offer.

A festival group swim will also take place. All welcome.

“Achill is one of the most beautiful places on the planet,” Emily said. “Keem beach, Keel beach, the Atlantic Drive, Minaun Cliffs and the Deserted Village are all must-sees for any tourist and festival goer.

“AIFF is dedicated to the advancement of filmmaking in the west of Ireland and being a link for all types of creative endeavours.

“If you’re looking for a weekend full of creativity, stimulating artistic conversation and the stunning backdrop landscape that only Achill Island can offer, we have it all."

Several Irish, European and even world premieres will be shown at the festival. Tickets remain for some events.
