CHILDREN playing in potholes.

Those are the pictures that have been circulated on social media.

Councillor Blackie Gavin said he saw a photo from Islandeady where there was a young lad standing in a pothole.

Another image from another rural area featured three young children playing in a pothole.

The councillor, speaking at a Castlebar Municipal District meeting, said it was important that roads in rural areas see their potholes filled.

A good job is being done by the crews but he highlighted the rural areas where issues can affect access for older people.

The point was made by Councillor Michael Kilcoyne that potholes are appearing in a matter of days.
