Tributes at Mayo meeting to fiddle legend Sean Keane
THE late fiddle legend Sean Keane, a member of the Chieftains, was warmly remembered at this week's meeting of Mayo County Council.
He performed on stage in Ballina for the visit of US President Joe Biden last month and visited Mayo many times over the years.
Extending a vote of sympathy to the Keane family, Councillor Christy Hyland recalled how Sean was a great visitor to Westport and Mayo to his friend and fellow Chieftain Matt Molloy.
Cathaoirleach Councillor Seamus Weir also remembered the late Chieftain and his thoughts were with his family at this time.
Councillor Annie May Reape recalled his performance for the Biden visit on the banks of the Moy - the band reunited for one last time for the event.
One of the greatest exponents of Irish traditional music, Sean Keane died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, aged 76.
