Kieran Goss and Annie Kinsella are set to enthral audiences at the Linenhall.

Enticing summer brochure unveiled by Mayo's Linenhall Arts Centre

THE Linenhall in Castlebar has released its May to July 2023 brochure, an eclectic programme of music, theatre, art exhibitions, workshops and more happening in the gallery, theatre and beyond.

Available for collection now at the Linenhall Arts Centre and throughout Castlebar, the programme commences from Monday, May 15, with exciting Creative Coffee news, that of May’s special guest being Castlebar-born Clodagh Lavelle, a member of the Turner Prize winning Array Collective.

Insight is given on upcoming stage delights such as Beezneez theatre company’s Pension Plan, and music with post-folk trio Slow Moving Clouds, both in June. The summer line-up also includes a performance by spoken word artist and poet Kim Rosen with the surprisingly and delightfully uplifting Feast of Losses: A Communion of Grief and Gratitude on July 20.

WORLD COLLAGE DAY

To celebrate World Collage Day 2023 on Saturday, May 13, is the return of the World Collage Day workshop. Guided by ATU lecturer Hazel Walker, participants are invited to cut, tear, realign and reimagine artworks of their own in the captivating method of collage.

Complimenting the genre on Wednesday, May 17, is the Linenhall’s first online collage event with Talking Collage, a discussion between artists Anthony D. Kelly and Valerie Asiimwe Amani.

A Castlebar native whose digital collage work has garnered international attention, Kelly’s artwork was selected as the representative art piece for World Collage Day 2023.

“As an act, collage invites us to hold a vital middle ground,” enthused artist and psychologist Anthony D. Kelly, “to remain open, to navigate juxtapositions, disjunctions, conflicts, contradictions and clashes of context, as we seek to move towards understanding, and the creation of something meaningful and new.”

Valerie Asiimwe Amani was the Linenhall’s first recipient of its International Artist Residency, and her work in mixed media includes collage in a variety of exciting methods. Participants are encouraged to create alongside the artists or simply listen along at this global event.

Both renowned performers, Goss, one of Ireland’s finest songwriters, and Kinsella joined forces to create Oh, The Starlings, an album of duets saturated in beauty and heartbreak, delivered with charm.

Kieran Goss commented: “It’s a rare treat for us to be playing so close to home, and this is our first time performing at the Linenhall Arts Centre. We’re really looking forward to it - see you there!”
