All square between Mayo and Sligo in Castlebar

Mayo have played out a 1-11 to 1-11 draw with Sligo in round five of the Connacht minor football championship.

Thomas Tuffy grabbed a late equalising point for the home side in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park, Castlebar, after a Sligo goal in the closing stages appeared to have settled the tie in favour of the Yeats County.

It was an even game throughout, with just two points separating the sides at the break, Mayo leading by 0-8 to 0-6.

A second-half goal by Matthew Leonard gave Mayo a bit of a cushion but their lead was just two points (1-10 to 0-11) when Sligo pounced through Eamon O'Mahony to take a slender advantage.

Tuffy's late point for Mayo ensured a share of the spoils, however.

There was nothing of consequence relying on the outcome of the contest yesterday evening. Sligo were out of the running for the championship while Mayo already knew they would have to face Roscommon in a semi-final for the right to take on Galway in the decider.

Galway concluded their campaign with a four-point victory over Leitrim in Tuam Stadium last night, while Roscommon had a bye in round five.
