Contractor to inspect Mayo Peace Park about repairs
THE contractor who built the peace park in Castlebar is to carry out an inspection of the site.
Issues have arisen with settlement at the site, with repair works necessary.
Councillor Michael Kilcoyne raised the problems at the park at the monthly meeting of Mayo County Council. “It is sinking, certainly gone a bit sideways, and there's a fair number of cracks,” he stated.
Having previously raised the issue at municipal district level, he requested further clarification.
Director of services John Condon said the council has made contact with the contractor and they have agreed to carry out an inspection. That will inform the proposal of what works are needed.
The insurance situation was also being looked at but it was unlikely it is covered, he said.
