Warm tribute to much-loved west Mayo personality on his passing

The death of Jim McManamon, Skirdagh, Newport, has evoked a huge sense of loss across west Mayo.

In his 103rd year, he died peacefully in his home in the loving care of his family.

In a tribute to the deceased, Burrishoole GAA Club described the deceased as 'a great club man.'

It stated: "A 16th man for many years, Jim was a frequent figure on our sideline and has been described as the face in the crowd that was ever-present.

"Supporting his own kids in earlier years to, in more recent times, supporting his circle of grandchildren, all undoubtedly did him very proud.

"The first to buy a ticket for a dinner dance, Jim and his late wife Mary, had been a constant support to our club for many decades.

"To put it simply, Jim was a great club man. He will be greatly missed by all at Burrishoole GAA Club.

"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."

Predeceased by his loving wife Mary, he is deeply regretted by his sons and daughters: Séan, Maureen (Gibbons), Angela (O'Malley), Kevin, Patsy (Duffy), Séamus, Paraic and Noel, son-in-laws and daughter-in-laws Anne-Marie, Gus, Martin, Ruth, James, Anne-Maria, Bernie and Noreen, his 31 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, neighbours and friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul took place earlier today at St. Patrick's Church, Newport, prior to burial in Burrishoole cemetery.

May Jim's kind and gentle soul rest in heavenly peace.
