OPW set to deal earlier with 'dangerous' issue at Mayo lake

Weed cutting will commence on Lough Lannagh in Castlebar over the coming few weeks.

The news has been relayed to local Councillor Ger Deere.

He stated: "This is a very welcome development for all groups and individuals using the water amenity over the summer season.

"There has been a ongoing issue over the years whereby weed cutting did not take place until August.

"This restricted all users and was was quite dangerous for swimmers.

"Last year I met with the OPW and a plan was put in place going forward to have weed cutting take place much earlier in the year so that everyone can enjoy the great amenity we have at Lough Lannagh."
