Amount paid to Mayo authority in refugee resettlement fees revealed
Mayo County Council has accrued an income of €1.6 million in relation to the resettlement of Ukrainians and other refugees into Mayo from March 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023.
A detailed breakdown has been provided to elected members of the authority on foot of a notice of motion submitted by Westport Fine Gael Councillor Peter Flynn.
A total of €1,532,918 is in respect of the provision of accommodation at Lough Lannagh Holiday Village, Castlebar (€1,355,762), the Quay Community Centre, Westport (€93,390) and hotel accommodation (€83,766).
Fees for staff came to €53,043 and inspection/refurbishment costs were €15,708.
There was a further payment of €1,769 which related to 'associated costs'.
Tom Gilligan, director of services, said the council submits claims for recoupment on an ongoing basis and has received €872,551 (as of May 2 last) with the balance remaining to be reimbursed.
