Food Festival in beautiful Mayo village is making a welcome return

Cong Food Village Festival is back, and it’s bigger and better than ever.

This year’s festival, taking place on July 8 and 9, will showcase the best produce and creative crafts that the west has to offer, all thanks to the sponsors and biggest supporters Ashford Castle Estate, and charity partner Daisy Lodge in Cong.

Saturday and Sunday will host a Farmer & Craft Market with award-winning producers such as Velvet Cloud Cheese, Sliabh Aughty Honey, Joyce Country Bakers, Loch Measc Distillery, Happy Goat, Mrs Tee’s, Fiona Concannon Art, Wild Food Vinegar, Ballymakenny Farm, Ivy Chocolates, Glasri Farm, O’Hara’s of Foxford, Kylemore Cheese, Connacht Whiskey, and so much more.

Over both days food trucks will set the scene for fresh food heaven! Serving everything from Handsome Burgers, Weir Dough Pizzas, Pratai, Andar Farm, crepes, ice cream, vegetarian and vegan options.

The Main Stage will host cooking demos throughout the day welcoming Sarah Butler at Home, Jeeny Maltese, TV Chef and Food Writer, Ready Steady Cook with Liam Finnegan, Executive Chef at Ashford Castle, Jonathan Keane, Executive Chef at The Lodge at Ashford, House of Plates' Barry Ralph and his daughter Nora on Food, Hungry Hooker Cooking Demo, Jonny Murphy, a retired professional rugby player who bakes, Paul Power, Pat Cohan’s, Paula Pasty, Ashford Castle, Mike Crowe, Ryan’s Hotel and many more.

And if that’s not enough, the organisers will also be welcoming the Newport Shepherds Master Sheepdog Demonstration on both days offering a unique experience.

Over both days, the winners of the Mayo Wellie Throwing Competition along with Egg Roulette Championships, will be the crowned.

There is a host of children’s activities over the two days, Saturday we welcome Drumadore, Ireland’s most FUN drumming school, Cupcake Decorating, Fuinnseog Woodland Crafts, a collection of truly unique mesmerizing games, Alpacas from Morley’s Garden Centre, face painting with Nancy The Clown, and the world-famous Duck Derby will take place on the Cong River on Sunday, July 9.

If you love history and nature, on Saturday, there is tour of the Cong Abbey with Cong Walking Tours.

On Sunday the Cong Heritage & Nature Walk takes place. Join Vincent Campbell and discover the beautiful surroundings of Cong.

Discover the old canal, risings of the waters, old turbine/cong jail, salmon hatchery, McNamara’s house, the curlew project, the monks fishing house and so much more. You could also venture on a two-hour island cruise with Corrib Cruises, departing from Lisloughrey Pier.

This sailing stops over on the historic island of Inchagoill and includes a guided tour of the island. A unique experience to say the least!

For the adventurer in you, join Corrib Safari for a sightseeing trip on board our high-speed RIB departing Lisloughrey harbour and exploring a range of islands.

On Saturday and Sunday, join Danagher’s Hotel for a Trad Supper, an afternoon of Irish Music and authentic Irish Food or venture to Lydon’s Lodge for ‘A Taste of The West’.
