The late Mary Nevin.

Passing of Mary Nevin in west Mayo deeply mourned

WARM tributes have been paid to the late Mary Nevin (née Diamond), Roskeen, Newport, who will be laid to rest this morning (Tuesday).

The Nevin name is synonymous with hospitality in the west Mayo area through the landmark Nevin's pub and restaurant, where many locals and visitors passing between Newport and Mulranny have been welcomed over the years.

Mary, late of Drum, Belmullet, was former owner of Nevin's Newfield Inn in Newfield, now successfully operated by John Nevin.

Her warm nature and kindness have been fondly recalled in online tributes paid to her since her passing.

“Mary was a kind-hearted person who always greeted you with a warm welcome and a smile,” one recalled.

“We have very warm memories of her hospitality and kindness to ourselves and the children during summer holidays. A lovely, kind lady,” wrote another.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Patrick, son David and daughter Avril.

She is deeply regretted by her loving sons John, PJ, Martin and Michael, daughters Tina McHugh, Achill, Caroline Sammon, Yonkers, New York, Jenny Moran, Drimurla, Newport, and Vanessa, Roskeen, brothers Padraic and Martin, sisters Sadie and Bridgie, sisters-in-law Annie Cannon, Carrowholly, and Bridget Munnelly, Holloway Road, London, daughter-in-law Ann, sons-in-law Tony, Edmund and Michael, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews relatives and friends, to whom sympathy is extended on their loss.

Following the celebration of Mass this morning in St. Brendan's Church, Tiernaur, at 11 a.m., she will be laid to rest in Killeen Cemetery.

May she rest in peace.
