Central Mayo village housing decision successfully appealed

A DECISION to refuse a 26-unit housing development for Ballyvary outline planning permission has been successfully appealed.

Developer Noel Golden tested if the principle for development was acceptable to Mayo County Council in making his application for outline permission for 28 semi-detached houses (12 single and 16 two-storey) with vehicular and pedestrian site access. The number of units was subequently reduced to 26.

The council refused his application, a decision that was then appealed to An Bord Pleanála.

An appeals board inspector agreed with the council and recommended refusal in the case.

However, the board did not agree with this finding and granted outline permission subject to a number of conditions.

It found that the density, layout and scale of the development proposed was acceptable.
