Mayo plans to join League of Ireland set to be unveiled
Mayo is planning to enter a senior men's team in the League of Ireland within three years.
Details of the move will be unveiled by FAI officials at a press conference at Breaffy House Resort tomorrow.
Talks have been taking place between the FAI and Mayo Football League in recent months with a view to forming Mayo FC as a League of Ireland club.
This will involve entering an underage team from next year with the intention of fielding an adult side from the 2026 season.
It is expected that Mayo will enter Under-14 and Under-15 boys teams, as well as an Under-17 girls team, in the FAI's national leagues from next year.
An academy leader and coaching staff will be put in place over the coming months.
However, Mayo's plans for a senior men's team playing in the League of Ireland is dependent on the establishment of a third division by the FAI.
An Under-21 squad has been formed in preparation for that eventuality.
