Great progress on east Mayo running track project

GREAT progress is being made on developing a new running track at Swinford Amenity Park.

The facility is headquarters for Swinford Athletic Club, who have produced athletes competing on the national and international stage, with Michaela Walsh on the 44-strong Irish team at the European Team Championships in Krakow last week.

Michaela threw a distance of 15.26 metres in the shot putt to finish second in her division as the Irish team pushed for promotion.

Swinford Amenity Park have confirmed that the track surface is now fully completed and over the next two weeks it will be lined with six lanes on the oval 200m track and the 100m sprint track.

A store building is currently being plastered by the CE scheme.

The central area of the track will be a future project and a synthetic surface will be installed which will allow for bowls, croquet, warm ups, etc.

They have shared some progress aerial photos by Jim Murray on social media.

Swinford AC has paid tribute to the track development committee for their dedication and determination in bringing the project to fruition.
