Influence from the Kingdom helped establish Mayo F.C.

The establishment of Mayo F.C., Ireland's newest football club, was influenced by the successful formation of Kerry F.C., another recently established club in the League of Ireland.

Mayo F.C. Chairman Séamus Hughes mentioned that the decision to create a club in Mayo was motivated by a visit to Mounthawke Park in Kerry, where they watched a First Division match between Kerry F.C. and Finn Harps, a team from northwest Donegal.

During their visit, the Mayo F.C. delegation had the opportunity to observe the operations of Kerry F.C. firsthand, thanks to the hospitality extended by Kerry F.C. Chairman Sean O'Keefe. They were given behind-the-scenes access to the club and witnessed the impressive attendance figures that football in Kerry had achieved. Kerry F.C. had already sold 600 season tickets and was attracting an average of nearly a thousand supporters to each home game, despite facing some challenges on the field while adapting to the standards of the League of Ireland.

Mayo F.C. has been granted permission to establish an Under-14/15 boys team and an Under-17 girls team for the upcoming season. However, no specific date has been provided for the formation of a senior men's team for Mayo F.C., indicating that the focus at the moment is on developing the youth teams and gradually building the club's structure.
