Bring houses bought under CPO for Mayo road back into use

HOUSES bought under CPO for the new N5 need to be brought back into use.

Properties sitting boarded up at a time of a housing crisis was bemoaned by Westport Councillor Peter Flynn at a municipal district meeting.

He asked for an update on the properties along the route between Castlebar and Westport, which he noted are now in state ownership.

Director of services for housing, Tom Gilligan, said properties will be referred to the housing section to see if they want to use them. If not used there, they would be offered for resale.

Councillor Brendan Mulroy said they should be brought into use as social housing.

The issue has also been raised at Castlebar Municipal District level.
