Mayo native is Ironman UK 10k champion

A MAYO native has been crowned 10k champion at the Ironman UK 2023 in Bolton.

This was the first ever Ironman UK 10k event, with Dermot Costello, who hails from Sraheens in Balla, putting his name in the record books.

Now living in the UK, Dermot has put a lot of hard work into preparing for the event and it paid off when he crossed the line in first place in what was a 10k personal best.

Dermot completed Ironman last year also (2.4 mile swim, 112 miles on the bike, and a 26.2 run) and qualified for Kona. He also complete a sub three-hour marathon late last year.

However, his biggest success came on Friday night when he won the first Ironman 2023 10k.
