Vote to put old Irish goat on new Irish passport

THE old Irish goat is in the running for a place on the Irish passport.

The Mulranny-based Old Irish Goat Society, who have pioneered the survival of the breed, are asking the public to vote for the goat in a public consultation process.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is currently exploring design options to feature in the next Irish passport, which will be released in the coming years.

They want to get the public’s input on choosing aspects of Ireland’s diverse natural environment, particularly its flora and fauna, to help shape a key part of the passport design.

The Old Irish Goat Society is excited to see their goats listed as potential representatives of our heritage and wildlife on the redesigned passport.

The consultation process is now open and you can have your say until July 12.

They are asking the public to vote for the goats: “It’s their time to be acknowledged and returned to their rightful place as a symbol of our heritage.”

The online vote is available at https://www.gov.ie/en/consultation/e28e8-passport-design-public-survey/.
