Mayo rescue volunteer comes to aid of cat stuck on telegraph pole

A CAT found itself at the centre of a rescue mission after getting stuck at the top of a telegraph pole.

The Ballina-based North West SPCA reported on its lucky day on its social media.

The cat was spotted perched on the top of a telegraph pole, most likely scared or chased up there.

He was there for over three hours from the time the SPCA volunteer first saw him.

The volunteer rang the gardaí, fire brigade and local farmers to help. She also had tuna out to try and entice him down.

However, cats, they reported, cannot climb down from poles.

The cat got back on the ground thanks to a local farmer and a roofer who came to the rescue and placed a ladder on the roof of a van so the animal could get down.
