Two Mayo projects secure creative climate funding

Two Mayo projects have been secured funding under the Creative Ireland Creative Climate Fund II, Councillor Mark Duffy has confirmed.

“Cascade,” led by UCD Centre for Irish Towns, artist Rionach Ni Neill and Ballina, Ireland's Greenest town, has been seeking to understand how the laneways of historic town centres can adapt to cope with climate change.

The project will explore how laneways can become a connected trail of climate-resilient, cohesive spaces that celebrate water.

This builds on the previous Ripple project in Greenhills, Ballina, which recently won a new European Bauhaus award.

A second Mayo project, “Wilderland” led by North Mayo Heritage Centre, has also been successful in the fund.

Wilderland aims to raise awareness and foster support for the restoration and rewilding of the Wild Nephin National Park - Páirc Náisiúnta Néifinne Fiáine through a two-year programme of embedded research, public engagement, creative community workshops which will culminate in site-responsive artworks.

At the centre of Wilderland will be the North Mayo Heritage National Parks and Wildlife Service, which will be working with their partners in the Mayo County Council Arts Service, Materials Matter Collective and TASC – Think-tank for Action on Social Change.

"Congratulations to everyone involved in these exciting projects," added Councillor Duffy.
