Uisce Éireann working to restore water supply in west Mayo area

UISCE Éireann is working with Mayo County Council to restore water supply following a burst to a major water main in the Aughagower area.

Dedicated water services crews are working to identify the leak as quickly as possible to reduce the impact on homes and businesses and restore normal water supply.

The areas affected include Knappagh Beg, Lankill and Aughagower, with both Lankill and Aughagower reservoirs running low on water.

Colette Scahill, Uisce Éireann, commented: “We understand how disruptive unplanned outages are and would like to thank impacted customers for their patience while we work to restore the water supply.

“I can assure those affected that our leak detection and repair crews are on the ground working to identify and fix the issue.”

To support customers, Uisce Éireann has arranged an alternative water supply.

A water tanker is located in the village of Aughagower and a second tanker will be in place this afternoon.

Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tanker and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure as per HSE advice.

The Uisce Éireann customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and customers can also contact them on Twitter @IWCare with any queries.
