Temporary closure of new Mayo dual carriageway announced

Mayo County Council has announced that the county's new €250 million dual carriageway between Turlough and Westport is closing for five nights for essential works.

The temporary closures will take place between July 30 to August 11.

A statement issued by the council outlined: "Notice is hereby given that in accordance with Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993 that it is the decision of Mayo County Council to temporarily close the road during the period commencing Sunday, July 30, to Friday August 11, 2023, to facilitate essential maintenance works.

"These essential works are programmed for five nights (7 p.m. to 6 a.m.).

"Advance notification of start date will be provided via Mid-West Radio and Variable Messaging Signs (VMS).

"Roads will be opened earlier than stated if works are completed early.

"Westbound vehicles travelling on the N5 will diverted on to the R309 (Old N5).

"Eastbound vehicles travelling on the N5 will diverted on to the R309 (Old N5).

"Vehicles travelling on the N60/R308 (Breaffy Road) will diverted on to the R309 (Old N5).

"Vehicles travelling on the N84/R307 (Ballinrobe Road) will diverted on to the R309 (Old N5).

"Diversionary routes will be clearly signposted, as agreed with Mayo County Council and An Garda Siochana. Emergency access will be maintained."
