Mayo TD wants more funding for local roads scheme

MAYO TD Michael Ring has strongly raised the need for further funding to be allocated to the Local Improvement Scheme (LIS) with Minister Heather Humphreys.

He set out: “Prior to my term as Minister for Rural and Community Development there had been no Local Improvement Scheme for a number of years. I reintroduced this very valuable scheme. This is an excellent scheme and affords local roads the opportunity to be repaired.

“However, a large number of roads do not get the opportunity to be repaired under this scheme due to lack of funding.”

He continued: “I am strongly calling on Minister Heather Humphreys to provide additional funding to Mayo County Council to the Local Improvement Scheme to facilitate more of our local roads to be repaired. I have spoken at length to the minister about this and she has given me an undertaking that she will look at the possibility of more funding being allocated to this scheme.

“I am very hopeful that the minister will agree to my request as this scheme is vital for the repair of local roads not under the charge of Mayo County Council.”
