North Mayo water project completed

IT'S an exciting year for Ballina as the town marks the 300th anniversary of its official establishment and Uisce Éireann is adding to the good news with an important project delivered this summer.

Works to replace a 4km stretch of pipework linking the Knockanillaun Tower and Ballina Reservoir and putting a stop to sporadic bursts on the Crossmolina Road area have been completed.

The old pipework was decades old and susceptible to bursts so replacing it has alleviated the threat of outages. The National Leakage Reduction Programme project has also improved the connectively between the two reservoirs resulting in a much more reliable supply.

Uisce Éireann’s networks regional lead Declan Cawley is proud to have delivered such an important project for the town.

He commented: “We continue to work with Mayo County Council to target the areas that need leakage reduction works the most and the Crossmolina Road in Ballina was susceptible to frequent bursts. By replacing this stretch of pipeline we have given homes and businesses in the area a more reliable supply of water.

“We must thank the community for their cooperation and patience while the works were ongoing.”

Following completion of the project, it is necessary to reinstate the permanent road surface. These permanent road reinstatement works will be completed in the coming weeks.
