New Peace Commissioner appointment for Mayo

AONTÚ representative for Mayo Paul Lawless has been appointed as a Peace Commissioner by the Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee.

Speaking following the appointment, Lawless said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as a Peace Commissioner for Mayo by the Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee, as prescribed under Section 88 of the Courts of Justice Act 1924.

“Over the past number of years through my involvement in community work I have often been approached by members of the public requesting assistance with official documents, etc. Rhis appointment will allow me to provide a better service to the people of Mayo.”

He added: “I would like to pay my gratitude and respect to the late Paddy Joe O’Brien, who carried out this role in the east Mayo area for many years with honour and distinction. Paddy was a great community man and loved by all.

“I look forward to fulfilling the important duties of a Peace Commissioner to the best of my ability.”
