Mayo road upgrade a major boost for Erris

The last of the notorious dangerous bends between Belmullet and Bangor Erris are to be removed by Mayo county council.

It was confirmed at a recent council meeting that there will be improvements made along the R313, including the building of a new bridge at the Bangor side of Lennon’s Quarry in Glencastle.

The news was welcomed by local Fine Gael Councillor Gerry Coyle, who wrote on his facebook page.

“I am happy to report that plans went through the part eight planning after being proposed and seconded by myself and Cllr. Sean Carey. I want to thank our fellow councillors for their support for the project.”

The works will now go to tender, with construction expected to start in the summer of 2024 and it is hoped the project will be finished by the end of next year.
