Mayo pub facing €12,000 rates bill
A PUB in Ballina has been hit with a rates bill for €12,000.
That's a significant increase from the €2,800 the operators have been paying.
The issue was flagged by Councillor John O'Hara at a county council meeting.
Some business owners have seen their rates bill increase following a rates revaluation process.
Councillor O'Hara said this case involved a small pub and they would have to close as they cannot afford to pay a bill of this size.
Council chief executive Kevin Kelly said the commercial rates revaluation had 'winners and losers'.
It is hoped to hold a workshop on the revaluation in September, elected members were told.
