Projects at Lough Lannagh progressing

CASTLEBAR area councillors have been updated on projects at Lough Lannagh.

Tender documents for a climbing wall at the leisure complex are due to be published on eTenders by the end of August.

The total budget for the project is €530,918, which includes a sports capital grant of €230,918 and match funding of €300,000.

The drafting of the tender documents is in progress with the aim to publish on the eTenders platform for the end of August.

The estimated project completion date is Q1 2024.

A skate park is at tender preparation stage, as is a jetty pier at Lough Lannagh.

Welcoming the updates at the monthly Castlebar Municipal District meeting, Councillor Blackie Gavin said they needed to look at the Lannagh masterplan, with works such as extra car parking required.

The area is a huge attraction, he added.

Also at Lough Lannagh, complaints have been received about the condition of fencing timber posts at the bridge, Councillor Ger Deere said.

Councillor Gavin said they were previously repaired but do now need replacing.
