Mayo Mountain Rescue Team are among the funding recipients.

€411,507 Clár funding for seven Mayo projects

FUNDING of €411,507 has been allocated under the Clár Programme 2023 - Measure 2: mobility, cancer care and community first responders transport to seven projects in Mayo.

Measure 2 supports voluntary groups that provide free transport to people receiving cancer care and other treatment. Community first response support and search and rescue organisations were also eligible to apply.

The allocations are as follows.

Western Care Association: wheelchair accessible, fully electric, €54,108; wheelchair accessible six-seat plus one wheelchair, fully electric, €59,936; wheelchair accessible six-seat, plus one wheelchair, fully electric, €59,936.

Mayo Mountain Rescue Team: Off road 4x4 vehicle, €48,509.

River Moy Search and Rescue Ballina CLG: Cargo van for search and rescue, €98,237.

Irish Wheelchair Association: Renault vehicle, €40,781.

Irish Community Rapid Response: Vehicle, €50,000.

Welcoming the allocations, Deputy Michael Ring said: “I am delighted with news of this funding allocation as these vehicles will be used to provide essential transport services for people with mobility issues and will help to improve the quality of life in rural communities.

“The funding to first responders, mountain rescue and search and rescue organisations in Mayo is also particularly welcomed. We rely on volunteers to provide these essential services and these allocations will help in the invaluable service they provide all year round in Mayo.”

Deputy Dara Calleary also expressed delight that the applications have been well received and funding allocated, saying: "I want to play tribute to each of the successful projects and wish them well in their future endeavours.”
