Mayo golfer is Under 13 Connacht champion

BALLYHAUNIS Golf Club member Ruairi Freeman has won the Connacht Under 13 Close Championship.

Ruairi, from Kiltimagh, finished six points clear of his closest contender in the competition, held at Mountbellew Golf Club.

The Under 17 title also came to Mayo, with Ballina golf Ben Doherty the winner.

For the Freeman family, Ruairi's success came hot on the heels of his uncle Barry Freeman winning the men’s captain's prize at Ballyhaunis Golf Club on Sunday last while dad Shane took the gross prize.
