Mayo GAA star calls time on inter-county career

Jason Doherty has opted to hang up his boots after a glittering career in the green and red of Mayo.

The Burrishoole ace represented his county with distinction for 13 years.

He made a total of 132 appearances for Mayo at senior level, placing him at joint-eigth alongside James Nallen.

His roll of honour during his career includes seven Connacht provincial titles (2011-2015, 2020 and 2021) and two National League titles (2019 and 2023), while during his time in Dublin Institute of Technology he picked up a Sigerson Cup title in 2013.

In a comprehensive statement from Doherty, he thanked successive Mayo managers, his family and wife Caroline as well as the famous “Mayo roar” from fans that supported him and the team the length and breadth of the country.

A programme manager with SEAI, Doherty will continue to turn out for Burrishoole at club level.

Current Mayo GAA senior men’s manager Kevin McStay released a statement thanking the wing-forward for his services, as did Mayo county board chairman, Seamus Tuohy.
