Community petition opposing wind farm at 'unsuitable' Mayo site

A petition has been launched opposing the erection of wind turbines in the communities of Muingmore, Geesala, Mount Jubilee and Doolough in north Mayo.

Behind the initiative is the Erris Action Group Against Windfarms.

A statement issued by the group outlined: "Thirteen towering wind turbines, each standing at a colossal height of 200 metres - this equates to a 65-storey tower - might loom over our community if not challenged.

"Are you passionate about preserving the beauty and tranquillity of our rural community?

"Do you believe in the importance of renewable energy but feel that wind turbines are not the right fit for these areas?

"Erris has rolling green fields, peaceful countryside, and close-knit communities thriving in harmony with nature.

"Our communities have worked hard to create a sustainable future, embracing renewable energy sources that align with their values.

"Wind Turbines threatens to disrupt this delicate balance.

"Together, we can urge decision-makers to reconsider the placement of wind turbines in these areas and explore alternative solutions that align with the values of these communities.

"Imagine a future where renewable energy and rural sustainable communities coexist harmoniously, preserving the beauty and tranquillity that makes them so special.

"By joining our cause, you can help create a sustainable future for these communities and ensure their voices are heard.

"Your signature will be a powerful statement in support of rural sustainable communities and against the placement of wind turbines in these areas.

"Together, we can protect the integrity of these communities and work towards a more sustainable future.

"Together, we can make a real difference."
