Mayo people among those 'best prepared' for retirement years
A survey has revealed that people in Mayo are among those best prepared for their retirement years.
The study, conducted by Standard Life Retirement Pulse, said over 44% in the west of Ireland said they are financially ready to retire compared to 31% of people in Leinster and 36% of people in Munster.
Likewise, nearly two-thirds (64%) of those in Connacht say they are mentally prepared for retirement in contrast with over half (54%) nationally.
Consequently, the retirement experience in the western region is characterised by considerable contentment, with over nine in ten (93%) indicating that they are enjoying happiness throughout their retirement, comparable with 94% of people in Munster and significantly higher than people in Leinster (74% on average).
