New event series at Ballinglen Museum of Art in Mayo

Let all roads lead to Ballycastle this autumn and winter as Ballinglen Museum of Art has just announced a unique series of night-time events entitled Later.

While Ballinglen's reputation in the visual arts continues to grow nationally and internationally – US actress Michelle Pfeiffer visited for a 2022 painting workshop – this new series embraces much more.

Stretching from September to December, the programme includes some of Ireland's greatest musicians, actors, storytellers and some surprises.

Generations young and old will be enthralled by seanchai (story-teller) Eddie Lenihan as he talks fairies, ghosts and Irish myth and legend (September 9). Cormac Begley is redefining the sound of the concertina, and he makes his way to Ballinglen from Co. Kerry in his campervan, which he calls ‘Beauty’ (September 30).

The kora, known as the African harp, makes a blissful sound and one of its greatest exponents from Senegal, Seckou Keita, pays a visit on November 4.

Lovers of acting and theatre have much to savour as Noni Stapleton takes a break from Fair City to perform her fantastic award-winning one-woman show Charolais on November 11. Yes, it's about a cow – but that’s only half the story!

Ballinglen also welcomes Mikel Murfi and his acclaimed and hilarious show The Man In The Woman's Shoes (December 2).

Speaking about the series, Una Forde, director of Ballinglen, said: “At Ballinglen, we’d like to think that as well as showcasing great art, we also bring people together and contribute in our own small way to Ballycastle’s social life. Later is an extension of that ethos.

“We hope to welcome many new visitors to Ballycastle over the coming months for this unique series of events that truly has something for everyone.”

Ballinglen promises to announce more special shows in September and October, so stay tuned to their social media channels or join their mailing list for the latest news.

Later @ Ballinglen is funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, in support of the Night-Time Economy After Hours at the Museum scheme. Later @ Ballinglen is curated by Ronan Quinn.
