Mayo care workers planning strike action over 'pay justice'

Workers in the community and care sector in Mayo are set to ballot on strike action in the coming weeks following the collapse of pay talks.

Employees in state-funded community and voluntary sector organisations are expected to begin voting on September 4.

They include staff of Western Care which provides care for hundreds of people with disabilities.

They are set to be balloted shortly following a breakdown of talks between government departments and unions on “pay justice” for the Section 39 sector.

The Mayo workers held an official picket outside the HQ of Western Care last September as part of their fight for equal pay.
