Mayo GAA star to lead the Belmullet Sunrise 4 STOP walk this weekend

This year's Sunrise 4 STOP event takes place on Saturday (August 26), and Mayo GAA star Ryan O'Donoghue will lead the event off in Belmullet at 6 a.m.

The Erris Family & Community Support Centre have been working with North West STOP to bring free counselling to the region.

You may never need the service, but if anyone you know does need it, it's free and it's available in Erris. To help maintain it, gather family and friends, team-mates and work colleagues, and walk on Saturday us to raise funds for North West STOP.

Since October last, hundreds of hours of free counselling has been provided for the people of Erris in Belmullet town. However, to add more counselling hours, another counsellor will have to be recruited.

One of the priorities of the Erris Family & Community Support Centre is to establish and retain these essential mental health services in the region so that local residents don’t have to travel outside of Erris.

Registration is €20 for adults (which includes a Sunrise 4 STOP event tee-shirt), while children and adolescents can take part for free. To take part on Saturday morning, click on 'Belmullet Mayo' at the registration site. You can can also register on the morning of the walk from 5.30 a.m. at the IWA Centre in Logmore, Belmullt. Refreshments will be available after the walk in the IWA Centre.

If you are under 18 and would like to register, make contact via email at info@northweststop.ie or by phone on (071) 9856070.

As well as Belmullet, walks are also taking place on Saturday in Sligo (main event), Tubbercurry, Riverstown, Carrick-on-Shannon, Drumshanbo and Ballyshannon.

In addition to Ryan O'Donoghue, another local sporting star, Geesala BC's Aoibhe Carabine, will be taking part in the Belmullet walk.
