The Connaught Telegraph shortlisted for three Irish Media awards

The Connaught Telegraph has been shortlisted for three accolades at the annual Local Ireland Media Awards.

The awards ceremony, which takes place on September 21 in Mullingar, celebrates excellence in provincial news publishing.

The Connaught Telegraph's coverage of the 'Climb with Charlie' fundraising event at Croagh Patrick last year has been selected as a finalist in the 'Best Use of Digital' category.

Also nominated in this section are the Southern Star, The Anglo Celt and the Meath Chronicle.

In the 'Best Local Advertisment' section, The Connaught Telegraph has been nominated for a promotion it did with Ireland West Airport Knock.

The Castlebar-based newspaper has also been shortlisted in the prestigious 'Best Innovation' category.

This is in respect of a collaboration it did with the National Museum of Country Life, Turlough.

Also nominated in this section are The Anglo Celt and the Southern Star.

The Western People has received four nominations.

Anthony Hennigan has been nominated for Sports Journalist of the Year while the Ballina-based newspaper's promotion with Ballina Community Clean-Up has been nominated in the Best Advertising Category.

It has two nominees in the Columnist of the Year category, with Paul O’Malley’s Edge of the Box column and Fr. Brendan Hoban’s Just a Thought column both nominated.

Edwin McGreal's series of articles in the Mayo News on the crisis in Western Care services has been shortlisted in the 'Best News Series' category.
