Mayo goalkeeper Luke McNicholas in line to make Wrexham debut

by Caoimhín Rowland

If you had the retirement of Ben Foster creating opportunities for two young Mayo goalkeepers on your bingo list, then fair play to you.

Luke McNicholas’ signature was highly sought after, consistently ranked as one of the best young ‘keepers in the league, but ultimately Wrexham AFC won the race.

The Belcarra native made his way onto the substitutes’ bench for Phil Parkinson’s side’s stalemate against Barrow.

An EFL Cup fixture tonight (Tuesday) at home to Bradford could see the former Sligo Rovers and Manulla goalkeeper make his debut.

He’ll be training with Irish international James McClean as well as other Irish players such as Anthony Forde and Eoghan O’Connell.

Wrexham are keen to move up the football pyramid after last season's promotion and with cash in abundance from Hollywood owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny.

You can be sure McNicholas is eager to seize on the opportunity.
