South Mayo councillor wants constituency to be reunited

A MAYO councillor wants to see areas in the south of the county returned to the Mayo Dáil constituency.

The Boundary Commission is due to announce details of its Dáil constituencies review tomorrow (Wednesday).

South Mayo Councillor Patsy O'Brien is clear on what he expects it to deliver: “I want a united county, simple as that!”

Commenting on social media, Councillor O'Brien said areas such as Cong, Cross, Glencorrib, Kilroe, Neale, Kilmaine, Gortjordan, Shrule and Ballycusheen are as much a part of Mayo as any other.

But, as it stands, these villages are in the Galway West constituency.

He said: “I made a submission to make Mayo a five-seater and bring these villages back to where they belong for the next General Election.

“On Wednesday, the Boundary Commission will be announcing its findings and I sincerely hope all of Mayo will be reunited again.”
