Passing of Margo Fitzgerald Byrne is deeply regretted in Mayo
The death of Margo Fitzgerald Byrne (née Stewart), 43 Rathbawn Drive, and late of Main Street, Castlebar, is deeply regretted in the community at large.
In her early 90s, she died peacefully earlier today after a short illness.
Margo was one of the county town's best loved and most respected personalities - and she actively involved for many years in running the family's public house, Byrne's, Main Street.
Her outgoing, affable and generous nature endeared her to everybody and she really enjoyed meeting up with her friends and having a chat over a cup of tea or coffee.
A long-serving member of Castlebar Bridge Club, news of her passing has evoked a sense of great sadness at the loss of a truly inspirational woman who loved life.
Many lovely tributes are being paid to her on social media where she is widely described as 'a lovely lady'.
One stated: "I have such fond memories of Margo, first in the bar and then at the bridge table.
"She was such a good bridge player and it was always a pleasure to come to her table. We will all miss her."
Another said: "She was always out and about, a great lady."
A further tribute stated: "A wonderful lady, always a pleasure to meet and such great company to be in."
Messages of condolences are being extended to the family on their loss.
She is deeply regretted by her son Michael (Mick) Byrne, Main Street, Castlebar, daughters Marie Flynn, Castlebar and Carol (Dublin), brothers Sean, Mick, Robert and Gay Stewart, sisters Eleanor, Teresa, Bernie and Adrianne, daughter-in-law Mary, son-in-law Peadar, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, neighbours and a large circle of friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.
Margo was predeceased by her parents John and Ellen, husband Michael John Byrne, and their son William Byrne, and husband Walter Fitzgerald.
Her remains will repose at Coady’s Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 p.m. with removal at 8 p.m. to her residence, Rathbawn Drive, Castlebar.
Removal from her residence on Thursday morning at 11.15 a.m for Requiem Mass at 12 noon in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.
Margo will be laid to rest afterwards in the Old Cemetery, Castlebar.
