Big step in securing permanent home for Mayo boxing club
Knockmore/Foxford Boxing Club is on the way to getting a new permanent home.
A 30-year lease of council lands at Swinford Road, Foxford, to the club for the development of a training facility has been approved by local councillors.
It will come before a full meeting of Mayo County Council on Monday for final ratification.
Proposing the lease of 0.21 hectares in Belgarrow, Councillor Neil Cruise welcomed that the club is now on its way to finding a permanent home on a fine site.
The club's record is second to none, he said, but they are hampered by not having full training facilities. This would allow them put up a permanent ring for sparring practice.
Funding will be sought under the latest round of sports capital grants.
