Miss Mayo Cynthia Sakala embarks on beauty pageant journey

Castlebar is celebrating the crowning of one of its own, Cynthia Sakala, as Miss Mayo. The 20-year-old beauty with brains is all set to represent her beloved Mayo in the upcoming Miss Ireland competition, which promises to be a night of glamour and talent.

Cynthia's journey to the Miss Mayo title was a remarkable one. She recently shared her excitement about the selection process, held in Dublin, where contestants participated in several rounds. These included a sportswear showcase, elegant black and white dress rounds, and a dazzling formal gown presentation.

What struck Cynthia the most was the camaraderie among the contestants, she still cherishes the friendships formed during the competition, “all of the girls were so friendly, we still chat to each other every day,” Cynthia said.

Currently in her second year at St. Angela's College, Cynthia is pursuing her dream of becoming a Home Economics and Religion teacher. But her passion for pageants and events such as the Rose of Tralee and Miss Ireland has always burned brightly. When she stumbled upon the Miss Ireland advertisement online, she knew she had to apply. Cynthia's family has been her pillar of support, sharing in her excitement when she secured her spot to represent Mayo.

Beyond her aspirations for the crown, Cynthia has a diverse range of interests. She enjoys the tranquillity of walking and the thrill of running, and she has a talent for baking that lead her to studies in Sligo.

Not to be overlooked is her unwavering support for the Mayo GAA team, a true testament to her love of the county. “I’d say Robbie Hennelly is probably my favourite player, he’s not there any more but he’s always been my number one,” she remarks.

Cynthia's road to Miss Ireland will culminate on November 4 at the Crowne Plaza Dublin Airport, where she will vie for the coveted title. She extends her heartfelt appreciation to her sponsors, Instaglam on Main Street in Castlebar, for their instrumental support.
