Mayo local authority staff planning industrial action from Monday

Industrial action by members of the Fórsa Trade Union at Mayo County Council is set to commence from Monday with an indefinite ban on political representation.

The action is as a result of the union's ongoing dispute to achieve job evaluation in the sector.

The move follows the failure by sector management to engage meaningful in the resolution of the dispute despite having been committed to doing so in the joint referral to the Workplace Relations Commission.

Negotiations at the WRC broke down in July due to the position taken by the the employer in resisting the union's claim.

This initial industrial action on Monday involves an indefinite ban on an engagement on all political representations, verbal, email and written, with a further escalation to follow.

"We have advised local authorities that attempts to circumvent or undermine this action may lead to an immediate escalation of the action," a union spokesperson stated.
