Charity run in memory of Angela McConway raises funds for Mayo Hospice
The Angela McConway charity run consisted of over 200 vehicles, from vintage cars, vans and trucks to motorbikes.
It set out from Westport Industrial Estate and passed through Castlebar, Pontoon, Foxford and Ballyvary before stopping at the Punch Bowl in Ballyheane for the raffle and refreshments.
The event was set up in memory of the late Angela McConway, née Chambers, who died from cancer in December 2019 at the age of 37.
Like all families struck by cancer, her family wanted to give something back to the palliative care team and night nurses at Mayo Hospice in Castlebar who cared for Angela and her family during the most difficult time of their lives.
Stated a family member: "The kindness, care, empathy and compassion from all the team will never be forgotten.
"We are very proud to have raised €9,450 towards the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation and it will help provide care services to families when they need it most.
"We can't thank businesses enough for their generosity, starting from providing the facilities to the making of sandwiches.
"We were kindly donated over 40 fantastic hampers and vouchers from businesses throughout Mayo and Ireland.
"Thanks to the people who donated online and on the day to raise such an incredible amount to support the hospice.
"A lot of good work goes into making this all happen and we are lucky to have good people around us.
"Angela loved nothing more than family get-togethers. When Angela did something, she did it in style, leaving no stone unturned and leaving no one out.
"So we set out to integrate all of what Angela loved into our event and it worked fantastically.
"We know Angela would be very proud of what we achieved and we can only make it bigger and better every year from now on.
"We couldn't have done it without the public, family and friends who helped with all the work along the way and we will be forever thankful.
"Angela will be forever in our hearts."
